🔴 Condition - Like New 🔴 - their classic victory against collingwood.
THIS IS A PAL FORMAT ALL REGION COPY.
The Grand Final nightmare continued for Collingwood in 1980 when Richmond inflicted one of the biggest hidings in Premiership history over the embattled Magpies. Having worked its way into the Grand Final from the Elimination Final, Collingwood looked a spent force on Grand Final day and there was no better or more powerful side than these Tigers to pick the carcass clean. Led by Kevin Bartlett, who had tormented all defences through a stunning final series, Richmond assumed control in the first quarter and mercilessly pounded Collingwood for the rest of the day. The margin was out to seven goals at half-time, ten at three quarter-time…the final margin is something which still frightens Collingwood supporters but always manages to bring a smile to the face of any true Tiger. In the end it was, as they ironically sing in the Collingwood theme song, a ‘cakewalk' for the Tigers. Bartlett had booted seven, David Cloke six, Mark Lee had dominated the ruck and speedsters Robert Wiley and Geof Raines had obliterated their Collingwood opponents. Bill Picken, Collingwood's game but scruffy centre half-back, eventually booted three goals for the Magpies, but there was even something a little forlorn about that. This was a day when nothing went right for the Magpies, but everything rolled magnificently for Tony Jewell's Tigers.
Richmond 23.21 (159) defeated Collingwood 9.24 (78)
