This intense tale of political unrest, and seduction takes place in an isolated mining town in North Queensland. From Sydney, Julie arrives to be with her union delegate husband. Conflict flares up between workers and bosses which provides a tense back drop to Julie and Nick's increasingly oppressive marriage. Although this novel, originally written in 1963. predates the real 1964-65 miners' strike, it graphically outlines the circumstances which lead to that bitter strike.
