This was North's big shot at its first Premiership, but unfortunately it was a boy being sent on a man's job. A good side short of experience, the Kangaroos were meeting a side which 'used' the ugliest brawl in league football history (v Essendon at Windy Hill) mid season to revive its fiercest fighting qualities. Once that led to the Grand Final it was going to take a mighty side to stop Richmond and, despite the best efforts of North, there wasn't one good enough. It was the old firm at it again for the Tigers - Sheedy, Hart, Sproule, Bartlett - and North's mixture of home grown talent and interstate stars just wasn't capable of holding back the mighty men from Punt Road. It was back-to-back glory for Tommy Hafey's men and a thrid straight flag didn't look beyond them.
