Dawn French stars as Reverend Geraldine Granger, the new vicar in the small English village of Dibley. She's not quite what the locals were expecting, and she's about to shake things up a bit. The village is home to the influential parish council chairman David Horton (Gary Waldhorn) and his son Hugo (James Fleet), as well as a group of eccentric locals, including Alice Tinker (Emma Chambers), Frank Pickle (John Bluthal), Owen Newitt (Roger Lloyd-Pack), Jim Trott (Trevor Peacock) and Letitia Cropley (Liz Smith).
Episode 1 - Arrival
The Reverend Pottle, aged 102, passes away and Didley Parish needs a replacement. The Parish council asks for someone younger, although they didn't count on getting a female, Geraldine Granger, a babe with a bob cut and a magnificent bosom. David Horton is not happy at all and wants her removed, but Owen suggests they give her a chance.
Episode 2 - Songs of Praise
BBC Religious programming would like to film Songs of Praise at the St Barnabas church in Dibley. So Geraldine and Alice hold auditions for the church choir. Owen has a go and it turns out that he is actually a really good singer. Geraldine has a bit of a crush on the producer Tristan, question is how is she going to handle him constantly yelling ‘cut' during her sermon.
Episode 3 - Community Spirit
The church needs to raise some money so the Parish council organises an Autumn Fayre. Geraldine thinks they need to get a celebrity, and is pleasantly surprised to hear that Alice's cousin is Reg Dwight, aka Elton John, he'll do nicely! Only trouble is that he's a different Reg Dwight. Thankfully Kylie Minogue shows up and saves the day.
Episode 4 - The Window and the Weather
There's a big storm in Dibley and a tree crashes through a stained glass window in the church. The Parish council must then decide whether to replace the stained glass with the old image or something more contemporary. They can't actually afford to replace it though, so Geraldine must go to great lengths to secure some funding.
Episode 5 - Election
The district council elections are coming up and David is counting on everyone's votes. What the village really needs is a bus service, but will he deliver? Geraldine goes on local radio and puts some pressure on him. The others think Geraldine should enter as a candidate in the election, could be quite an interesting campaign.
Episode 6 - Animals
Geraldine is planning a special service for the animals of the village, but David not happy that animals will be in the church. The press soon gets hold of the story and David sees it as his opportunity to have Geraldine replaced. Meanwhile, Owen and Jim are getting quite competitive in the lead up to the pumpkin show.
