However, over the course of the film La Motta's personality drives a wedge between them. La Motta soon separates from his first wife and takes up with the very young Vickie. This relationship, was not the best move for La Motta and Vickie only serves  to worsen La Motta's already messed up personality.\u003cbr\u003eAlthough blood may be thicker than water, as far as La Motta is concerned they might as well be the same thing. Joey, has faith and belief in his brother but La Motta cannot see this and during the film drifts further away from him.\u003cbr\u003eYou may think that boxers, when they finish their career, either check into a hospital to get their head checked or end up managing others. Not La Motta, who, minus wife number two Vickie, becomes an entertainer.
