Steptoe and Son was written by Alan Simpson and Ray Galton and began life as a ‘sketch' performed at the Comedy Playhouse. From there the writers developed the show which many generations of viewers have come to know and love.
During its lifetime (1964-1974) eight series were made as well as two films and two Christmas specials. There was also a series of radio shows developed, some of which can still be heard today (if you're up early enough in the morning)
This DVD is a ‘best of' collection and contains the following episodes:
Men Of Letters
Harold jumps at the chance of supplying an article for the parish magazine on the history of the rag and bone trade in Shepherd's Bush. It could be the start of a new career.
A Star is Born
Albert and Harold are both offered parts in the local amateur dramatic society's latest production, but who will upstage whom? Only the opening night will tell.
Oh What A Beautiful Morning
The death of Albert's tight-fisted brother George, means yet another Steptoe funeral and Albert's keen to claim his share of the pickings. But when the squabbling clan race back from the cemetery like vultures to a feast, they find the house has been burgled…or has it?
The Desperate Hours
Albert and Harold have hit hard times: the house is colder than the Russian front, there's a pile of bills big enough to paper the room with, and all Harold's eaten all day is a carrot he stole from the horse.
Back In Fashion
A fashion photographer wants to use the Steptoe yard. Glamour and luxury against a backdrop of squalor and all those ‘birds' – could this be Harold's lucky day?
