The true story of Irish journalist Veronica Guerin (Cate Blanchett) who in the mid 90s became a crusading journalist determined to expose the drug dealers who were ruining so many lives, amassing fortunes that couldn't be used to incriminate them or be touched. Threatened, beaten but never cowed, Guerin - a wife and mother - paid with her life for her bravery but not in vain: Irish laws were quickly passed on her death, and several drug dealers she was pursuing were arrested, tried and jailed.

What comes acrossmost clearly in this commentary is the passion that Joel Schumacher has for the story of Veronica Guerain. When initially approached by Jerry Bruckheimer to make the film, Joel was not aware of the true life events that led to the murder of the famous Irish journalist, yet now counts her mother amongst his friends. This is an informative commentary, and one which is extremely easy to listen to.
AUDIO COMMENTARY
Writers Mary Agnes Donoghue and Carol Doyle deliver a commentary which deals with the realities of life in Dublin at the time of the story, and the real life Guerin (with whom they seem incredibly familiar) rather than focusing on the actors or the film per- se. It is a worthwhile listen for those who wish to learn more about the factual background to the movie.
DELETED SCENE
There is only one deleted scene on this DVD. At just over 2 minutes 30 seconds this scene is about the Committee to Protect Journalists at which Veronica Guerain received an award.
