On Saturday 5 July 2003, Lance Armstrong set out from Paris on the Centenary Tour de France. After 3427.5 kms of torrid and backbreaking racing - through Northern France, across the Alps, the Pyrenees and back up to Paris - he returned having achieved his mission. Armstrong won LE TOUR DE FRANCE and became only the second rider in the race's 100-year history to win the event five times in a row and only the fifth rider to win the event five times in a career. This was the fastest Tour on record and will long be remembered as the most combative and closely fought.
